Bird Eating Caterpillar

This should be a Brown-headed cowbird (Molothrus ater). It was trying to eat a caterpillar but failed because it was too big.

Sometimes you can spot a deer if you look closely, if it is near the main trail, you'll see a bunch of people taking pictures. XD

The bird is an oregon junco.

Photography tip: Zoom in on the bird. Try not to approach it too fast. It will get scared. Always take multiple shots!

Photography tip: For beginners, set your camera to macro mode for taking close ups. It is the fastest way. Always to remember to switch your camera back to fully automatic mode after you are done.

There are lot's of trees in the park, the hiking trail is perfect for a hot summer day, because it is cool in the park and it is mostly shade. But not the best conditions to take a picture. XD I know that from how most of my pictures were really dark.

这个公园里有很多树，这条山路做好是大夏天爬了因为公园里很凉快和都是树荫。可是拍照没那么好。XD 我很多照片拍出来是黑的。

Surprisingly, it caught several fishes!

There is an island in the middle of the lake. I think this is where most of the birds and ducks sleep at night at this park.

These pictures were taken at Fremont Central Park located in Fremont, CA, USA. The lake is called Lake Elizabeth.

Geese and Ducks 鹅和鸭

Canadian Geese (Branta canadensis) and Mallard Ducks (Anas platyrhynchos) are part of the habitat around Bay Area, CA, USA.
加拿大鹅和绿头鸭是在弯曲这边两种动物。

Canadian Geese: a wild goose belonging to the genus Branta, which is native to arctic and temperate regions of North America, having a black head and neck, white patches on the face, and a brownish-gray body. It is often called the Canadian Goose, but that name is not the ornithological standard, or the most common name.

I'm guessing this is a kind of geese because of it's bill shape. If anyone know what this is, please tell me!

Update 9-7-2012: After years, I figured out the name. It's the Muscovy Duck (Cairina moschata)

The Mallard, or Wild duck (Anas platyrhynchos), probably the best-known and most recognizable of all ducks, is a dabbling duck which breeds throughout the temperate and sub-tropical America, Europe, Asia, New Zealand (where it is currently the most common duck species), and Australia.

I'm guessing this white duck is also a mallard duck. Not sure. If I'm wrong, please correct me.

Barn Swallows and the Red-Winged Blackbird

Today's pictures will be pictures of barn swallows (Hirundo rustica) and the red-winged blackbird (Agelaius phoeniceus).

The Red-winged Blackbird (Agelaius phoeniceus) is a passerine bird of the family Icteridae found in most of North and much of Central America. It breeds from Alaska and Newfoundland south to Florida, the Gulf of Mexico, Mexico, and Guatemala, with isolated populations in western El Salvador, northwestern Honduras, and northwestern Costa Rica. It may winter as far north as Pennsylvania and British Columbia, but northern populations are generally migratory, moving south to Mexico and the southern United States. The Red-winged Blackbird is sexually dimorphic; the male is all black with a red shoulder and yellow wing bar, while the female is a nondescript dark brown. Seeds and insects make up the bulk of the Red-winged Blackbird's diet.

Killdeers

The killdeer (Charadrius vociferus) is a medium-sized plover. These pictures as taken at Fremont Central Park in Fremont, CA, USA.

Where the killdear is standing, usually you can see water. The reason you see land in this picture is because workers have drained part of the lake to build a BART (Bay Area Rapid Transportation something like a lightrail) extension.

The next few images, will be a bit blurry because I went to the park a bit late that day, there wasn't enough lighting for me to take clear pictures. My camcorder doesn't have a really good camera flash either. Photoshop was able to fix most of the colors though. But please enjoy!
