Birds & Scenery - Fremont Central Park (Part 3) - Fremont, CA

As you guys know, ever since I moved out of Fremont, CA, I haven't visited Central Park (Lake Elizabeth) much after. I recently took a few trips there and shot a lot of wildlife photos. I will be splitting the photos into 4 blog posts.

The photos for the blog post today are shot on 1/2/2015 and 1/5/2015. It is all photos of birds and scenery.

There is quiet a funny story behind this photo. My friend was the one who spotted the seagull. He was all like, "What is that?!" I looked and all I saw was a seagull flying with some sort of bulge on its head. The first thing that occurred to me was this seagull had a tumor on its head as I've seen wildlife with cancer tumors before. I followed the seagull until it landed, and I approached it with my camera. Turns out it was just a seagull with a big piece of bread stuck to its head. Of course I had to take a photo of this hilarious seagull.

Next up is a photo of Brandt's Cormorant (Phalacrocorax penicillatus) in the middle of Lake Elizabeth. 

Another photo of the Brandt's Cormorant (Phalacrocorax penicillatus). I processed these only in black and white because that was my original intention. I thought the birds standing in the middle of the lake made a great black and white abstract.

This is what I suspect to be a hybrid offspring. It seems to be a cross between a Brandt's Cormorant (Phalacrocorax penicillatus) and a Mallard Duck (Anas platyrhynchos). The first time I saw this bird was back in 2010. You can see that photo on this blog post here.

Birds in Shadow Cliffs Regional Park (Pleasanton, CA)

Today I have photos from Shadow Cliff Regional Park in Pleasanton, CA. Shadow Cliff Regional Park is part of the East Bay Parks District, and is a great recreational area to visit. There are many picnic tables, and a lake that you can swim in. Also, the park is a great place for some nice bird and animal photography as there are many ducks, birds, and geese there.

Not too sure, but this could be a Golden Crowned Sparrow (Zonotrichia atricapilla). If I'm wrong, please correct me in the comments below.

Fremont Central Park

The other day I went to Fremont, CA to meet up with a friend. We decided to go to Fremont Central Park and just hang out. I didn't bring my camera that day so I took all of these photos with my phone. I hope you enjoy viewing these photos! Sorry for this super short post with so little photos, I am very busy recently studying for tests, I don't have any time for a long blog post. Hope you all can understand!

 That one awkward (not sure what it's called) that is at Fremont Central Park. It can't fly (Wings are tiny!) and is always upright. Weird. I think a Mallard Duck (Anas platyrhynchos) made out with a Brandt's Cormorant (Phalacrocorax penicillatus) and created this... Sure looks like it. Brandt's Cormorant always stand upright, and the green head suggests a Mallard.

California Quail (Callipepla californica) and Natural Bridge State Beach in Santa Cruz, CA

Today I have photos of the California Quail (Callipepla californica) and photos from Natural Bridge State Beach in Santa Cruz, CA. The photo of the California Quails was taken near the state beach. Also near the state beach (same park) is the Monarch Resting Area which is accessible via a boardwalk. I don't have any photos of it here as I was not in season to see the butterflies, but every year (I forgot when), a huge amount of Monarch butterflies will fly there and rest. It was an amazing scene and I went there once when I was younger. It was beautiful.

Squirrels can be seen a lot in the park.

The white birds in the background should be snowy egrets (Egretta thula).

Update 3-5-2014: This is believed to be a hybrid offspring of a Brandt's Cormorant (Phalacrocorax penicillatus) and a Mallard Duck (Anas platyrhynchos)
