National Geographic Your Shot Photo Walk - San Francisco, CA (3/30/2014)

This past Sunday (3/30/2014), National Geographic's Your Shot Team hosted a photo walk out at The Warming Hut (Torpedo Wharf) in San Francisco, CA. I am here to show you the photos I shot while on the photo walk. I also headed to Fort Point after the photo walk and shot some photos there too. The photos will be split into several parts. The photos for today are just from the photo walk. The photos from Presidio and Fort Point will come in later posts. I also want to take this time to thank National Geographic's Your Shot team for hosting this wonderful photo walk. Please come do another one in the SF Bay Area soon! I had a really great time talking to you guys and taking photos. Also, thank you very much for the free breakfast and goodies. #YourShotMeetUp just like you guys told me.

Message from the Photographer: I will continue with my photos from China after this series because this was quite a popular event and it took place recently. I hope you guys don't mind. Enjoy the photos.

When I arrived at the meet up, the group split into 3 groups. I decided to join the group that was looking at microscopic marine wildlife. When I arrived, the National Geographic photographer just fished up some seaweed from the ocean bottom and put it in a glass jar for us to photograph. The photo walk started a bit after sunrise. This photo was shot on Torpedo Wharf.

Here is the National Geographic photographer. He moved the seaweed into a plastic bag to transport it back to the picnic tables for a closer look.

After the photography part, the National Geographic crew and The Warming Hut prepared us breakfast. It was very delicious! :) Thank you so much National Geographic for the wonderful photo walk. I had a very good time. 

Here is a photo shot back home. National Geographic also gave the attendees some free goodies. I got 2 pins, a t-shirt, and a reusable grocery bag. Thank you so much guys! Love the designs!

San Francisco, CA 11-16-2013 (Part 1)

Recently (well technically around half a month ago), on 11-16-2013, there was a photo walk in San Francisco that I had participated in. I am here to show you some of the photos I shot while on the photowalk. The photos will be from the Embarcadero, the Financial District, and Chinatown. I will be splitting the photos into 2 parts.

The photos for today are from the Embarcadero and the Financial District.

Message from the Photographer: Since the road trip photos from my trip traveling from the SF Bay Area to Victoria, BC, Canada is going to be a very long, I decided I'm going to splice these San Francisco photos in the middle as these were pretty recent. I hope you enjoy viewing these photos!

I first start off at the Embarcadero, which was very crowded that day due to the flee market near the Ferry Building. I did some street photography style shots while there. Here is a photo of someone's pet dog. A few of us photographers went to go pet it. I just took a photo of it.

Here is a photo of bok choy at the flea market. I thought it made a great photographic subject for street photography. 

I also did a black and white process of that. 

Here is a photo of a guy writing poems for money at the flea market. I couldn't quite make out what he was writing from my photo... 

I thought a black and white process gave it a better street photography feel, so I did a process this way too.

Here is a photo of a seagull at the flea market. Wasn't scared of me at all. I got pretty close to it. 

Now the photo walk group heads into the Financial District. Please note the GPS coordinates I give you may not be very accurate. The Canon GP-E2 GPS Receiver does not work too well in big cities with tall buildings as with all GPS systems.

Here is a photo of the old Stock Exchange Building. It is no long used for that purpose, and according to a few of the other photographers is now used as a gym.

Columbus Tower/California Street - San Francisco, CA (Part 1)

A bit over a week back (on 10-12-2013), there was a small photowalk in San Francisco, CA that I had attended. We took photos in the Columbus Tower area and the San Francisco Ferry Building area. I will be splitting the photos into 2 parts. In these 2 parts, I will have photos of the Columbus Tower, the Transamerica Pyramid, California Street, the San Francisco Ferry Building, and photos from Pier 14.

Today will be the photos from the Columbus Tower area and California Street.

It was starting to get dark when we got there, as this was a pretty late photowalk. As you can see, it was already starting to be a long exposure with the streaks of light. 

We focused on the Columbus Tower area for the majority of the photowalk. 

Here is a portrait shot of the Transamerica Pyramid.

We kept shooting the Columbus Tower under different lighting conditions as the sun sets.

A police car happened to have drove through when I exposed this picture creating streaks of blue light. 

Getting really dark outside. 

A zoomed out shot. The distortion was from the fact that I shot this at 16mm on a full frame.

After the Columbus Building area, we walked toward the San Francisco Ferry Building. Here is a shot of California Street at where the street intersects with Kearny Street.
