State Route 1 - Monterey County, CA (Cellphone Photos)

On 18 April 2023, my mom and I drove along State Route 1 in Monterey County, CA. We visited Garrapata State Park and Bixby Creek Bridge. I took photos with my cellphones and mirrorless camera. The photos are split into 3 blog posts. I hope you enjoy viewing my photos!

These photos were shot on my cellphones. The photos are from Garrapata State Park (Somberanes Point Trails and Calla Lily Valley), State Route 1, Notleys Landing, Bixby Creek Bridge, and Coast Road (near Bixby Creek Bridge).

The first main location we visited was Garrapata State Park along State Route 1.

Next we arrive at Calla Lily Valley which is also in Garrapata State Park.

Next we started driving towards Bixby Creek Bridge.

Next, I look a walk along part of Coast Road near Bixby Creek Bridge. My mom was too cold so she stayed in the car here. We ended up communicating over the Midland GXT1050 Radio which worked flawlessly over the short distance. The max distance apart was approximately 1720 ft, with no obstruction (except for our car). There is only patchy cellphone service along State Route 1, and my mom and I had no AT&T signal around Bixby Creek Bridge. I recommend you bring radios if you are traveling in a group so you can communicate with each other.

Also please note Coast Road was closed on the day I went, and I did walk into the closed area. There was a small, but constant flow of sand, small pebbles, and small rocks coming down on parts of the rock face. This is risky, and the road is closed for a reason. If you walk onto the road, please assess the risks yourself before walking into a closed area. You access closed areas at your own risk. You could become trapped under a rockslide or your return path could be blocked off by a rockslide. You could die!

Calla Lily Valley & Garrapata Beach (Cellphone Photos) - Monterey County, CA

Yesterday, on 11 March 2022, my parents and I took a trip to Calla Lily Valley in Garrapata State Park in Monterey County, CA. I took 8 photos with my cellphone while I was there. I hope you enjoy viewing my photos!

Travel Tips: If you want to visit the area, the GPS coordinates are at 36° 25' 19" N, 121° 54' 47" W. The valley isn't far from State Route 1 (you park on the side of the highway). You have to walk around 10 minutes tops. The trail down is relatively easy, my dad managed on crutches (he accidentally injured himself a few weeks back), and I navigated it just fine with my partial blindness due to visual snow syndrome (there were a few things I weren't able to do due to the vision loss). The trail to the valley can be a bit narrow at times, and it is a little bit muddy around the calla lily flowers (the flowers are fed by a creek). The trail is definitely not wheelchair accessible due to stairs and how narrow some sections are. My parents and I went on a Friday, and there were a lot of people. If you go on the weekends, it will be crowded. The area where you park is not going to be too safe. My parents and I saw shattered glass on the side of the road, so burglars are definitely breaking into parked vehicles.

Bixby Creek Bridge - Monterey, CA (Aerial Photography)

On August 10th, 2017, I took my DJI Phantom 3 Professional Quadcopter out to Bixby Creek Bridge (part of State Route 1) in Monterey, CA for a flight so I can take some aerial scenery photos and shoot some aerial scenery video. In this blog post, I have my aerial photos.

Andrew Molera State Park - Big Sur, CA (Part 4)

After I was done at the beach, I took a hiking trail up to the highlands. Here is a scenery photo of the ocean from the highland area.
