Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, Umpqua River Lighthouse - Oregon Coast

From 7/17/2013 to 8/2/2013, I took a road trip from the SF Bay Area to Vancouver, BC, Canada. Half of the trip was spent driving up the west coast. On my trip, I visited many famous places such as Seattle, Butchart Gardens, Mount Rainier, and much more. Obviously I got many coastal shots and many places that isn't as famous. The reason I am posting it now is because the high amount of photos I took equaled a high amount of processing time. I took a bit over 2000 photos on the trip. After stitching the panoramas, compositing the HDRs, and picking out photos from the repeats, I have a bit over 1000 photos to show you guys. The photos will be split into parts. I will link you to the previous and next parts on each post just like I did with my Death Valley National Park photos and my Yellowstone/Grand Teton National Park photos. Hope you enjoy viewing this chain of posts!

Full Resolution Photos and Prints: If you want to see full resolution photos or buy prints of any of the photos you see, they are up on my portfolio for viewing. Today I continue my trip north along the Oregon Coast. Photos from today are from Reedsport, Winchester Bay, and Gardiner. Places in these cities include the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area and the Umpqua River Lighthouse.

Message from the Photographer: I got the order of the blog posts a bit screwed up. This one was actually suppose to be after the Cape Blanco State Park post. Sorry!

The 1st 2 photos are taken in Tugman State Park in Reedsport, Oregon.

This isn't a desert. It is just a giant beach near the ocean. Here are some vegetation on the sand dunes. The wind was blowing very hard that day. Sand was flying around everywhere. Gotta love the weatherproofing on my camera. Back at the car, I just used a brush and brushed all the sand off of my equipment and I was fine. However my skin was slightly itchy from the sand.

I spotted this one of these grass plants all by itself. I thought it would make a nice abstract shot.

These foot prints walking towards me or away from me? :) I'll put the answer in below the black and white process.

Black and white process of the photo above. I made these foot prints while walking down the sand dunes. Purposely made them deeper for photographic purposes. I walked down, turned around, and took the photo. The foot prints are mine and are walking towards me. I feel the black and white process is a lot better than the colored version.

These are all the photos for today. I hope you have enjoyed viewing them. Next time I have more photos from Oregon's Coast.  Here is a photo from the Prehistoric Gardens in Port Orford, Oregon. I didn't go into the park this time and shot this photo from the parking lot. When I was a kid, my family and I also took a trip up driving along the coast. Back then, our destination was Seattle, WA not Vancouver, BC. Back then, I did take a trip into the gardens. I still remember it. It was pretty fun when I was little, but the park is more geared towards little kids. That is the reason I didn't go in this time, plus we were kind of in a hurry driving up the coast on this trip!

Today I start photos from my drive up Oregon's coast. I will include some sunset shots from Brookings, Oregon, and photos from Gold Beach, Oregon.

I'm guessing this is one of the first shots EVERYONE takes of Oregon. I'm no better. :P Good thing they have a pull out right at the sign! Pretty sure this sign saved a lot of traffic headaches.

I was a bit behind schedule so I knew I wasn't going to make it to Gold Beach for sunset. I decided to pull into another park on the road for sunset photos. This was shot in Harris Beach State Park in Brookings, Oregon.

With all sunsets, you can't just take one photo and get over with it. Here are a few more.

Another sunset photo.

I thought the beach would look nice in black and white so I did a process of that too.

Another sunset photo.

Now I get to my hotel in Gold Beach, Oregon. I shot this photo from my hotel room at Gold Beach Resort facing South Beach Park. The hotel rooms had a small deck facing outside. It was already dark out, but some how the sunset was still visible to the camera.

I set up for a star trails that night. Photo consists of 30 exposures at around 2 minutes each. So total exposure time is around 1 hour and 3 minutes. To take this photo, I just went ahead and set up the camera to take the photos automatically with my intervalometer, and I went ahead and showered for the night.

The next morning, I decided to get a better look of the park and get a panorama of the park from the deck.

Here is an HDR composition.

I then proceeded to walk into the park for some shots.

Black and white process of the photo above.

A few more photos from the park.

Now I continue my drive up north taking a few photos at beaches in Gold Beach, Oregon.

Today I continue my trip up California's Coast with the last of the photos from California's Coast. After this, it will be Oregon, USA. The photos for today are shot in Klamath and Crescent City. I visit some of the more popular places along the California's Coast such as the Tour Through Tree in Klamath, CA.

The famous Tour Through Tree in Klamanth, CA. Which is really just a tree with a big hole on it that you can drive through. Nothing else. Oh yes, did I mention the outhouse. Only bathroom there.

Here is a photo of the Tree of Mystery. As you can tell, I didn't really go into any of these. I read reviews talking about how it is a bit more geared toward little kids.

Still in Klamath, CA here are some shots from False Klamath Cove. And there on the left you see my student (dad) who photo bombed my shot. LOL
