February/March Cellphone Photos

I was traveling a ton in February and March so I haven't had much time to post these cellphone photos I took. During the month I took photos from Pleasanton Ridge Regional Park, flowers in my backyard, Shark Fin Cove, and Del Valle Regional Park. Here are the photos I took. I also shot DSLR photos from Shark Fin Cove, and those photos will be coming soon.

Photos of snow in the San Francisco East Bay. You can see snow on the distant hills. Photo shot on February 27th in Pleasanton Ridge Regional Park in Sunol, CA. It was extremely cold for a couple days before the photo was shot so the San Francisco Bay Area saw some really rare snow. This has been one of the coldest winters I've experienced in the San Francisco Bay Area in almost two decades as a resident.

Shark Fin Cove in Davenport, CA shot on March 5th. The area is also known as Davenport Cove, Shark Fin Beach, Shark Tooth Beach, and Shark Tooth Cove.

After Shark Fin Cove, I went to Kang Nam Tofu House in Milpitas, CA for dinner. I love this restaurant and I always pass by for food when I get the chance. They got something new in the restaurant now. A restaurant robot that brings food to you! Really cool. I'm a bit of a technology and robotics nerd.

Peach Blossoms - Spring in Pleasanton (February 2016)

Back in February 12th and February 16th, I went out and took some springtime photos around Pleasanton, CA. I took photos spring flower blossoms, mushrooms, clouds, and wildlife. Some of the photos are from Pleasanton Tennis & Community Park. You maybe wondering why I am posting these photos so late. If you have been following me here or on social media, you would know my old computer broke down (so no photo processing), I had to set up a new computer, and I had to deal with some health issues. All the things going on in my life delayed my work by a very long time. I still hope you enjoy viewing these photos though. The photos from my photo shoots will be split into a few separate blog posts.

The photos for today are of peach blossoms from random parts of Pleasanton, CA. All of the photos for today were taken on February 12th.

I felt the flowers look great contrasted against the blue sky.

I took a photo of the flowers with the street in the background. I thought this gave it a nice city look.

I decided to single a few out and get an even closer photo of the blossoms.

Peach Tree Flower Macro Shots

It is finally spring, but it is more like summer here in the SF Bay Area. Anyways, spring is a wonderful time for flower photos as they are starting to grow and bloom. Today I have photos of some flowers growing on my peach tree to show you. All of these photos were taken in my back yard with the help of my Kenko Extension Tubes and my Canon Speedlite 600EX-RT. I will also be telling you a bit on how I took these photos so hopefully you can get a few tips from them too.

Full Resolution Photos and Prints: If you want to see full resolution photos or buy prints of any of the photos you see, they are up on my portfolio for viewing. To see my macro photos for 2013, use this link. Photography Tip: For all of these shots I did put my flash on a light stand (well mine is a cheapo tripod) because I didn't have an assistant to hold it for me and I used an off camera sync cable to tether the flash to the camera.

Photography Tip: See how these photos have a black background? This is achieved by under exposing the shot and turning up the power on your flash. Light fall off from your flash is very fast so the flower is the only thing lit in the photo. As long as you have a flash, you want to set your camera up in Manual mode. Since any movement with a macro shot will cause motion blur in your image, you want to control the light, and use a speed up to your camera's sync speed with your flash. This speed is usually 1/200 second or 1/250 second. Don't worry about under exposing your photo as your flash is very strong. Make sure you do use a light modifier such as a soft box to soften the light from your flash, and keep the flash as close as possible to the subject. If the image appears under exposed, just turn up your flash power or adjust the flash exposure compensation in your camera's menu.
