Backyard Macros

On April 22nd, 2017, I took some macro photos in my backyard of flowers, dandelions, and other things. With the San Francisco Bay Area mega storms the past few months, the wild flowers has been blooming like crazy. My backyard is no different. Here are the photos I took that day. The photos are shot using my Canon EOS 5D Mark III with my Kenko Extension Tubes and Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens. I will be splitting the photos into 2 parts.

Bug Macros

Merry Christmas and happy holidays people! I know this doesn't quite fit the holiday spirit, but it is the only blog post I have drafted currently so it will have to do. I hope you enjoy the macros.

On December 22nd, 2016, I noticed a spider and a bug in my bathroom. Being a photographer, I got excited and decided to do some macro photography of my buggy subjects. The photos are shot using my Canon EOS 5D Mark III with my Kenko Extension Tubes and Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens.

 A bug I found on the wall. It is around 3mm long. It was pretty tough to take a photo of even with macro equipment due to its small size.

Mushroom Macros (Cellphone Shots)

Recently I've talked myself into a jogging plan. So pretty much, I want to loose some weight before summer gets here because my friend and I are planning a beach day sometime during summer and I don't want to look too fat in my swimsuit. Anyways I pretty much ran out of water when I got to my local park today and the drinking fountains hasn't been turned back on yet due to the risk of freeze damage.

On my walk home, I spotted this mushroom on the ground. I decided to get a macro shot of it with my cellphone. I doubt I can do this kind of photo with my DSLR as the physical size would prevent me from getting it that close to the ground to get a side on shot of the mushroom. One thing cellphones are great for right? :) I spotted a few more mushrooms on my walk home but no matter how I tapped on the camera app to make it focus on the mushroom, it kept back focusing on me so I gave up after about 10 tries to get it to focus. Anyways I only ended up with these 2 photos of the mushroom. Photo from Pleasanton Tennis & Community Park in Pleasanton, CA.

As for other news, where have I been all this time? It has been raining a lot this year, probably due to the El Ninõ so I've just been home a lot (and also hanging out with friends because it is winter break). I have been out for a few photos around Pleasanton, but not enough that I'd pull the photos out of my camera and process them. I do have photo trips to a few spots in San Francisco planned so there is that! Expect new photos to come onto the blog in a couple of weeks so please don't forget to keep checking back!

Spider Macro

I recently did some macro photography shots of a spider I found and I am here to show you guys. The photos are shot using my Canon EOS 5D Mark III with my Kenko Extension Tubes and Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens.

Before I get started on this blog post, there is something important I have to say. This spider was already crippled when I caught it (it wasn't going to live long as it was already limping), however during the photography progress, I did accidentally rip off one more leg. I've handled bugs and insects for photos many times in the past and this has never happened. Bugs and insects I took photos before were all released back into the wild alive and unharmed. The photographer behind Naturetastic Photography do not condone insect/bug/animal/wildlife cruelty. This was a rare occurrence, and the spider was still released back into the wild alive (possibly as bird food now). I would like to reiterate that this spider was already crippled when I found it. Even if I did not take photos of it, it would have most likely ended up in a bird's belly either way (there are a lot of birds outside of my house). I most likely managed to prolong its life for about an hour as I did these shots. I am by no means happy I accidentally ripped two legs off of this thing. I felt bad for it.

Macro Photography (Bug, Flowers, & Strawberries)

I found this bug outside on a tree. I think it might be a cricket but I am not sure so I am just going to call it bug.

Update 11/11/2014: Some of my followers on Google+ pointed out this is actually a kissing bug. I am so glad that this thing just stayed pretty still in the petri dish for the whole photo shot and didn't bite me or anything. Never again am I going to bring a bug I can't identify into my house for photos!

I recently got myself some glass petri dishes and a few small food storage containers to catch bugs and photograph them so there will definitely more photos coming soon of small bugs! That is if I don't end up breaking all 5 petri dishes I got! HAHA If you know me, I am pretty careless with my stuff. After this bug photo shoot, I already broke one of the dishes. LOL That is why I got a pack of 5. 

I noticed that the logo on the box I was using to elevate the dish was showing up in my photos so I replaced the background with a piece of paper. 

One last photo of the bug. 

The next day I took the macro set up outside into my front yard for a few photos. Here is a macro photo of a dandelion.

I then got photos of some really really tiny flowers under macro conditions.

Government House - Victoria, BC (Part 4)

From 7/17/2013 to 8/2/2013, I took a road trip from the SF Bay Area to Vancouver, BC, Canada. Half of the trip was spent driving up the west coast. On my trip, I visited many famous places such as Seattle, Butchart Gardens, Mount Rainier, and much more. Obviously I got many coastal shots and many places that isn't as famous. The reason I am posting it now is because the high amount of photos I took equaled a high amount of processing time. I took a bit over 2000 photos on the trip. After stitching the panoramas, compositing the HDRs, and picking out photos from the repeats, I have a bit over 1000 photos to show you guys. The photos will be split into parts. I will link you to the previous and next parts on each post just like I did with my Death Valley National Park photos and my Yellowstone/Grand Teton National Park photos.
