Bug Macros

Merry Christmas and happy holidays people! I know this doesn't quite fit the holiday spirit, but it is the only blog post I have drafted currently so it will have to do. I hope you enjoy the macros.

On December 22nd, 2016, I noticed a spider and a bug in my bathroom. Being a photographer, I got excited and decided to do some macro photography of my buggy subjects. The photos are shot using my Canon EOS 5D Mark III with my Kenko Extension Tubes and Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens.

Full Resolution Photos: If you want to see full resolution photos of any of the photos you see here, use the following links. If you wish to purchase prints of any of the photos, please contact me here. To see all of my photos I shot at home from 2014 to 2016, use this link.

A bug I found on the wall. It is around 3mm long. It was pretty tough to take a photo of even with macro equipment due to its small size.

Stanley Park (Part 2) and Downtown Vancouver, BC

From 7/17/2013 to 8/2/2013, I took a road trip from the SF Bay Area to Vancouver, BC, Canada. Half of the trip was spent driving up the west coast. On my trip, I visited many famous places such as Seattle, Butchart Gardens, Mount Rainier, and much more. Obviously I got many coastal shots and many places that isn't as famous. The reason I am posting it now is because the high amount of photos I took equaled a high amount of processing time. I took a bit over 2000 photos on the trip. After stitching the panoramas, compositing the HDRs, and picking out photos from the repeats, I have a bit over 1000 photos to show you guys. The photos will be split into parts. I will link you to the previous and next parts on each post just like I did with my Death Valley National Park photos and my Yellowstone/Grand Teton National Park photos. Hope you enjoy viewing this chain of posts!

Full Resolution Photos and Prints: If you want to see full resolution photos or buy prints of any of the photos you see, they are up on my portfolio for viewing. To view my best Vancouver photos from this trip, use this link. To view all of my day 10 photos, use this link.

Close up shot of a water lily. Didn't notice there were so many bugs on there! On the left is the shadow from my lens. Had to really lean on the deck to get this shot.

Walking back towards my car. Another few photos of that tree stump.

Spider Macro - Happy Halloween!

Guess who found a spider in the bathroom yesterday? I did! Guess what I did with it? Well, I didn't kill it. However what I did might still sound a bit mean. I picked it up with some tissue, and dropped it in my sink. Then I went ahead and set up for macro photography using my Canon EOS 5D Mark III with my Kenko Extension Tubes and Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens. I had to push the spider back in my sink a few times for these shots. LOL I decided to post these photos up as it is Halloween, and I guess it fits the theme pretty well. So happy Halloween everyone! Hope you have a safe one.

Mission Peak in Fremont, CA

A while back, I went for a hike on  Mission Peak in Fremont, CA. I took the Stanford entrance up (if you are from the area, you'd understand). Here are some of the photos I took during the hike. I also did a few GPS logs to test out my new Canon GP-E2 GPS Receiver. If for some reason you want those logs, just email me using the email provided on my About the Photographer page. I have the logs in Google Earth KMZ, Canon LOG, and GPX formats.

Full Resolution Photos and Prints: If you want to see full resolution photos or buy prints of any of the photos you see, they are up on my portfolio for viewing. If you are interested, please select one of the links below:
Here is a macro shot of a flower. I took this photo before I started my climb near the trail head. The photo was shot with help from my Kenko Extension Tubes and my Canon Speedlite 600EX-RT

This is a photo shot near the trail head. On my hike up, I mainly focused on landscapes so I used my wide angle lens

Here is another landscape shot of Mission Peak.

Another landscape shot of Mission Peak.

A panorama of Mission Peak looking down at the SF Bay Area.

Another photo looking down Mission Peak at the SF Bay Area. I headed up a little bit more after this photo, but I didn't taken any more landscape shots after that.

A cow on Mission Peak. There are many cows on Mission Peak. So afterwards, I started heading down. On my way down, I switched over to my telephoto lens for close up shots.

The 70mm end of my telephoto lens is good for some landscapes too! Here again, is the view down Mission Peak looking at the SF Bay Area.

I thought the rock formation looked pretty interesting. So here is a photo of it.

There are many squirrels on Mission Peak. Here are photos of one first looking at me, then eating something.

It is Spring here in the SF Bay Area. Flowers are blooming. Here is a photo of a Bermuda buttercup (Oxalis pes-caprae) and a bug on it.

Another Bermuda buttercup (Oxalis pes-caprae) photo.
