Monterey, CA Sea Lions & Scenery

On the 17th May 2025, my parents and I took a trip to Monterey, CA and Pacific Grove, CA. We visited Coast Guard Pier, Monterey State Historic Park, Presidio of Monterey, Lovers Point Park, and more. I took photos on my phone and on my Olympus mirrorless camera, and the photos are split into 2 posts. I hope you enjoy viewing my photos!

This blog post has the Olympus photos I took. The photos are from several locations in Monterey, CA. Photos are from San Carlos Beach, Coast Guard Pier, and Monterey Bay Coastal Trail.

Message from the Photographer: I know these photos are posted incredibly late, unfortunately Long COVID is now destabilizing my condition quite rapidly. I have not been feeling very good for the past month.

We parked at Presidio of Monterey and walked a loop around the coastal wharf areas. I first checked out the museum at the presidio, and also the Sloat Monument (no photos). After that we walked over to San Carlos Beach and Coast Guard Pier.

Unfortunately soon after this, the kit lens broke on my Olympus mirrorless camera, so the rest of the photos from this trip were shot on my cellphone. You can view the cellphone photos in my other blog post.

San Carlos Beach Sea Lions (Cellphone Photos) - Monterey, CA

On the 7th September 2025, my parents and I went to San Carlos Beach in Monterey, CA to see the beach filled with sea lions. I saw photos of them online before I went. This was the first time I have seen so many sea lions gathered on a beach. I took photos with my cellphone. I hope you enjoy viewing my photos!

Message from the Photographer: My energy from Long COVID was pretty good yesterday, but also part of it is I'm trying to trigger a crash in hopes they can find some problems on the respiratory system tests next week.

Funny story about the photo above. I did not actually see this sea lion napping in the shadow of the fence until its head popped up over the fence. It gave me quite a nasty shock. 😂

My mom helped take a photo of me and the sea lions on San Carlos Beach. Also in the photo are Monterey Bay, Coast Guard Pier (on the right in the distance), Sand City (on the right in the distance), mountains (in the distance).

A funny story from the stairs at San Carlos Beach. Two 10 year old girls were standing next to me, and I overheard this conversation.
"I think that sea lion there is a boy."
    "How do you know?"
    "Look at the pink thing."
    "What pink thing... Oh..."
Anyways, I also took a look. It turns out the long, straight thingy on male sea lions are pink. 😂
