Clifton Court Forebay - Contra Costa County, CA

On 5 May 2024, my parents and I went to Clifton Court Forebay in Contra Costa County, CA (near Byron, CA) for photos! The clouds were very nice that day! I hope you enjoy viewing my photos!

Point Roberts, WA (Part 1)

From 7/17/2013 to 8/2/2013, I took a road trip from the SF Bay Area to Vancouver, BC, Canada. Half of the trip was spent driving up the west coast. On my trip, I visited many famous places such as Seattle, Butchart Gardens, Mount Rainier, and much more. Obviously I got many coastal shots and many places that isn't as famous. The reason I am posting it now is because the high amount of photos I took equaled a high amount of processing time. I took a bit over 2000 photos on the trip. After stitching the panoramas, compositing the HDRs, and picking out photos from the repeats, I have a bit over 1000 photos to show you guys. The photos will be split into parts. I will link you to the previous and next parts on each post just like I did with my Death Valley National Park photos and my Yellowstone/Grand Teton National Park photos. After the ferry landed, I proceeded to travel to the small island city of Washington called Point Roberts. This small 5 square mile town is surrounded by the ocean and Canada. To travel into the city, you will have to either travel by boat or go through a border crossing. I found this very interesting as the residents will have to pass the US border crossing when going back home, and travel through Canada's border crossing when they want to leave the city, even if it is to travel to mainland USA! I took 36 photos in this town and will be dividing the photos into 2 parts.

Approaching the US border station. Since I'm US citizen, they just took a note of the crossing and let us pass. No questions asked except what you guys plan on doing here.

 I got so excited after arriving in Point Roberts, I quickly took a photo. I also checked my cellphone which apparently was connected to the Canada cellphone service. I guess the US carriers don't have a cell tower here. The US takes the city very seriously. The first sign I saw after passing the border crossing was a MPH sign showing the speed limit, not km/h. This was a big pain for me while driving in Canada. I had to constantly look at our odometer and do a speed conversion for my dad who also had no concept of km/h.

 First place I arrived at was called Lighthouse Park. At first, there was no "lighthouse" in sight... A Washington local there also was like, I've never seen a lighthouse here before. I found the lighthouse later. I'll show you a photo in the next post.

Another photo of the wonderful scenery there. I guess I hit Washington on a good time of the year. I hear Washington is very cloudy and rainy most of the year.

The park was very beautiful. I zoomed in on the house from the above photo for another shot. I couldn't decide which one was better so I decided to show both of the photos on here.  

Some giant poles in the ocean. I thought they made a very good photographic subject, so here is a shot of it. Many of my followers on Google+ liked this shot.

 I took several photos of this house. After taking that first shot, I picked up my camera and tripod and walked away for other shots, however closer inspection on the camera revealed my camera's focus was a bit off for the first shot. I tried to find the same angle I shot it at, but I couldn't... The angle on the first one was the best in my opinion.

Lone Pine, CA/Cerro Gordo - Death Valley National Park (Part 2)

At the end of November last year (2012), I took a trip to Death Valley National Park. This is the second trip there in my life. The 1st time I went, I was still a little kid, and I didn't start taking photos yet. This time, I have a pro camera and I am ready to shoot the scenery. Death Valley National Park is known for its "out of this world" scenery, UFO sightings, and many other things. The desert is a very mysterious and beautiful place. In this chain of blog posts, I will be showing you mainly photos of Death Valley National Park, but also photos from surrounding areas like The Mojave Desert, Alabama Hills, and Rhyolite Ghost Town. I have picked out over 400 photos from my trip to show you guys and I will be dividing them into many blog posts. Unlike blog  post chains before, I obviously can't put a link of ever blog post on every single blog post, so instead, I will do the same thing I did for my Yellowstone National Park photos before, by sticking a link of the Next and Previous post on each blog post instead.

Message from the Photographer: I didn't find any time to do a blog post yesterday, so here is one today! I hope you enjoy it. Also I have gotten a new Canon GP-E2 GPS receiver for my new Canon EOS 5D Mark III! Obviously you can't see the geotags on my blog, but it will help me give you a better position on some of the photos. 

Continuing from the last blog post, I have photos of my trip into Death Valley National Park from Lone Pine, CA. The first stop I made was the Cerro Gordo ruins (ghost town). I didn't go all the way in because the road was too bumpy for me and it made me sick to my stomach, but I did get some shots of some of the historical remains in the area.

On the way into Death Valley National Park, I saw a wild horse on the side of the road. Since I only had my wide angle lens on, I just shot some wide angle shots with the horse in it. 

The area was so beautiful and quiet. The horse didn't seem to mind me being there. I guess I was pretty far away too. So...

 Now I arrive at the Cerro Gordo ruins. Here is some remains in the ghost town. 

Photography Tip: When composing your shot, make sure you have something for the person viewing the photo to look at. Don't just do landscape with nothing else. Use rocks or other objects (like the one above of the ghost town remains) to spice up your shot! It will make it look a lot better. Look around and see if you can find objects you can use to lead the viewer into the shot. As for my shot above, after I took the first shot of the remains, I thought to myself, this would make a great foreground for a landscape shot! So I proceeded in doing so. 

Remains of a house? Not sure. Anyways, I didn't go too deep into the ghost town because again, the bumpy dirt road made me car sick so I just went half way in. Most of the ghost town is deeper down the road I think.
