Autumn Foliage in Macro

The leaves are changing color in my neighborhood here in Pleasanton, CA. I saw this macro shot another photographer took of a leaf on my Google+ feed and I decided I have to try out some myself! During my walk the other day, I picked off 5 leaves that I liked from trees in the Pleasanton Tennis & Community Park. I only ended up using 2 of them though. Here are the shots I took. I have the regular process photos, black and white processes, and also a few abstract type processes to show you. These photos were all taken on my Canon EOS 5D Mark III with my Kenko Extension Tubes and Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens.

Full Resolution Photos and Prints: If you want to see full resolution photos or buy prints of any of the photos you see, they are up on my portfolio for viewing. To see my best autumn foliage photos for 2013, use this link. Macro shots of leaves are very cool. The details on the leaf looks like a completely different world.

A black and white process of the photo above.

I shot these photos by back lighting the leaves with my Canon Speedlite 600EX-RT and a softbox

A macro shot of a red leaf I picked up.

I decided to process the same photo in a more abstract manner. I over-saturated the shot and it gave this "volcano look" that you see in some cartoons.

I also processed the photo in black and white.

Same leaf, a slightly different section on it.

Abstract process of the photo.

The red leaf wasn't so flat, so I switched back to the yellow leaf I was shooting with earlier. Here is a shot of  the leaf in vertical layout.

I thought the symmetry looks nice.

Another shot of the leaf in a horizontal position after fixing it to be parallel to the camera.

Another section on the same leaf.

Another shot of the leaf. I took many repeats varying the power on my flash. They all turned out very nice. :)

Another horizontal shot on the leaf.
