Shark Fin Cove - Davenport, CA Scenery - Video

Scenery video from Shark Fin Cove in Davenport, CA. The video footage was shot with a Canon EOS 5D Mark III DSLR Camera on August 15th, 2016. Shark Fin Cove is a small secluded beach on the side of State Route 1 near Santa Cruz, CA. The beach is also known as Shark Fin Beach, Shark Tooth Beach, Shark Tooth Cove, or Davenport Cove. The cove gets its name from its rock that looks like a shark fin or shark tooth.

In this video, I show some scenery of Shark Fin Cove from a few different angles and a bonus clip at the end of Bonny Doon Beach in Santa Cruz, CA. Bonny Doon beach lies on the boundary between Santa Cruz and Davenport.

Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens Review (Video)

A detailed review of the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens. This is a very light weight lens, great for backpacking. I often use this lens for wildlife and flowers (on tall trees). So far no issues. Even though it is constructed out of plastic, this is one rugged lens. I have hit this on walls and other objects when it hangs on my neck, and it has been over a year and still working strong! The zoom is great, and I love the bokeh (make sure you watch the photo slideshow at the end).

If you are a beginner or intermediate photographer on a tight budget and want to start with wildlife photography, this is a definitely a must have for your kit. Remember that EF-S mount lenses are not compatible with full frame DSLRs! If you might upgrade, definitely go for a EF mount lens like this one!

Lens Specifications From Canon's Website:

Lens Construction: 15 elements in 10 groups
Diagonal Angle of View: 34° - 8° 15' (with full-frame camera)
Focus Adjustment: Front-focusing method with helicoid ring drive

My New Canon EOS 5D Mark III

That's right, I will be taking just a little break (for today) from the Death Valley National Park photos. The reason being is because, I don't have any time for a blog post today! I have a hiking trip at Lake Chabot Regional Park in Castro Valley, CA planned with a couple of friends. If your question is how I am writing this one, it is because I actually wrote this blog post yesterday and scheduled it to automatically post today.

Ok, so what is this blog post about? It is all about my new Canon EOS 5D Mark III! That's right, some camera pr0n and no, it is not a name I just made up and I did the spelling like that on purpose. Very popular among photographers, just Google it. Unlike real pr0n, in camera pr0n, we focus on cameras instead. There is no adult content here, unless of course you consider photos of cameras to be adult content. :)

So here is just a small story behind these photos. I recently got a Canon EOS 5D Mark III over Christmas as a gift a friend. Here, I just want to show it off to you guys. :) I hope you enjoy. Photos I take with the camera won't really bit up any time soon since. I have so much photos I took before I got this camera I still have to show you (this includes Death Valley National Park). Anyways, please enjoy.

Here is the box for the camera. Time for a little unboxing.

Fully unboxed. :) All the stuff that was in the box.

Another comparison.

Alright, this is all the photos I took for this blog post! I hope you have enjoyed this. :P Please don't forget to share the blog post with your friends and family members! Castle Rock Regional Recreation Area

Today I have some photos from Castle Rock Regional Recreation Area. This is one of the parks in the East Bay Park District in San Francisco Bay Area. The park itself is located in Walnut Creek, CA. I hope you enjoy viewing these photos!

Full Resolution Photos and Prints: If you want to see full resolution photos or buy prints of any of the photos you see, they are up on my portfolio for viewing. To see all of the photos from this trip here.

Panorama of the trail leading in.

As the name Castle Rock suggests, there are several giant rocks there with "tiny caves" making it look kind of like a natural castle.

Here is a zoomed out shot of the photo above.

Zoomed in shot of the opening. My Canon 600EX RT Speedlite was used to light up the "cave".

Focus stacked image of moss growing on a tree.

HDR of the rocks.

Thank you for viewing my photos from Castle Rock Recreational Area! This is all the photos I took at the park. Here is a list of stuff I still have in my photo collection I haven't shared with you guys yet: San Francisco photos, Santa Cruz photos, macro photography, Arroyo Del Valle Trail photos, Shadow Cliff photos, and many more! So make sure you check back often! Please don't forget to share my blog posts with your friends! If you would like to get notifications next time I post, you can "Like" me on Facebook or follow me on Twitter and Google+. Canon's New EOS 6D Full Frame DSLR

Hello photography enthusiasts! Canon has unveiled today their new EOS 6D camera. This new camera is a great upgrade if you are an EOS 7D owner as this camera is only around $2100 USD (Body only) compared to the EOS 7D which was priced around $1500 USD (Body only). If you are making this upgrade, please take note this camera only reads SD cards and are not compatible with EF-S mount lenses. A 20.2 megapixel full frame sensor, a built-in GPS, DIGIC 5+ Image Processor, and a built-in Wifi transmitter are just some of the important components making this new camera unique.

The new built-in GPS allows the camera to include location information in every photo you take. Other Canon DSLRs so far (Example: 5D MkIII7D) requires you to plug in an external GPS in order to recored location information. The new built-in Wifi transmitter allows you to upload photos wirelessly, print photos wirelessly, and control the camera wirelessly. Previous cameras (Example: 5D MkIII7D) needed an external Wifi transmitter in order to do these things. Peripheral Illumination Correction, Chromatic Aberration Correction, and Distortion Correction can also be done in camera.

If I had the money right now, I would totally upgrade from my EOS 7D to this camera. Sadly, I do not have the money right now. HAHA Currently (at the time of writing this post) this camera is up for pre-order at $2099.00 USD plus tax where required on Amazon.com. If you think you want to upgrade, or want to find out a bit more, please follow this link

Specifications:
  • Sensor: 20.2 megapixel full frame (self cleaning via ultrasonic vibrations)
  • Processor: DIGIC 5+
  • GPS: Built-in
  • Wifi: Built-in
  • Memory: SD, SDHC, SDXC Cards
  • Lens Type: EF mount (No EF-S or EF-M lenses)
  • ISO: 50-102400 (when ISO range is expanded in the in-camera settings) ISO Auto can be limited. User can set a high/low limit.
  • Flash: Needs external Speedlite. None built-in.
  • Modes: Auto, Creative Auto, Scene Mode, Program, Shutter Priority, Aperture Priority, Manual, Bulb, 2 Custom Functions
  • AF Type: 11 Point AF including a high-precision center cross-type AF point with EV -3 sensitivity allows focusing in extreme low-light conditions
More specs are available on Amazon.com. I just listed some of the important ones here.

Message from the Photographer: For all of you fans out there that are getting bored of this chain of posts, you would be happy to know this is the last photos for this chain of posts! YAY! For all that wants more, I'm sorry, but these are the last of the photos from my Monterey, Point Lobos, and Big Sur trip. Maybe next time I go, I can get more photos. Either way, I hope you enjoy viewing these last photos from my trip! :) So now your question is probably, is the next photos you post from your Yosemite trip? Well, it is not that easy, and the answer is no. I have some photos from places near my house that I am going to post first. I have not finished looking and processing through my Yosemite photos yet. I have shot a bunch of HDR and panoramics which all need to be processed before I can start posting. Sorry about that!

Landscape shot at a turn out on the highway. The fenced off area said Private Property. Who ever own the land gotta be really lucky! A private beach!

More landscape. This one was probably also shot at a turn out too.

More landscape. What high cliffs!

The cliff must be a really steep drop...

A landscape of the highway shot out of the sun roof of my car. Don't worry, I wasn't driving.

A beach at Big Sur.

Pelicans flying over the bridge.

Another landscape shot with the pelicans flying.

Another shot of the beach from a different perspective.

The last two shots were done from my Samsung Galaxy Nexus. You can tell the aspect ratio is a bit different. I thought they looked pretty nice so I decided to post them too.

Photos of taken out of my car's sun roof. Photos of the mountain highways.

I hope you have enjoyed viewing these photos. If you didn't read my message above, there it is again, reworded. This is the last post in this chain of posts. I had as much fun showing them to you as you did when you viewed them. Coming up next will be of photos from places near my house. I have not finished looking and processing through my Yosemite photos yet so those will be coming up later. Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens Review (Video)

Warning: As shown in the video, I replaced this lens with one of Canon's top notch L-model lenses. The information provided in the video and video description may be slightly biased as the L-model works a lot better and gives a way better quality than this lens.

The Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens is a great entry level lens for both entry level photographers and amateur photographers. The lens is light and compact and is made of plastic and glass. This is one of Canon's cheapest lenses and is usually bundled with some DSLR bundles. The lens gives off great photo quality for the price and would satisfy any amateur or entry level photographers.

Pro:
  • Light weight
  • Cheap
  • Has image stabilizer
  • Fairly good photo quality for the price
Con:
  • Not as sharp as L-models (Canon's elite lenses)
  • Chromatic Aberration at non-center
  • Aperture changes as you zoom
  • Front of the lens moves (not good for polarizers)
  • No distance window
  • Micro-motor focus (loud)
  • Light fall off at wide aperture
  • EF-S mount not compatible with some cameras

As you know camera companies, like Nikon, Sony, and Olympus, has started pushing out the new compact DSLR cameras. It has been promised these new compact cameras give near real DSLR quality photos, and is extremely compact and light weight due to the lack of mirror and viewfinder. Canon has now released their own compact DSLR line beginning the EOS M series cameras which is also compatible with both EF-S and EF mount lenses as long as an adapter is used. The camera is compatible with the new EF-M mount lenses with no adapter. This new camera is an 18 megapixel camera and has most of the functions a real Canon EOS DSLR would have. The camera also captures crystal clear 1080p video and offers full time auto focus during the take (use STM lens for quieter/smoother focusing during video). Videos and photos can be viewed on a TV via mini-HDMI. These are just some of the features of the new EOS M series cameras. Depth of Field in Photography (Video)

This video explains what depth of field in photography is and how you can adjust it in your camera.

Key Points:
  • Depth of Field = DOF
  • Wide DOF is narrow aperture, high F-stop number, and will have most/all of your photo in focus. This is generally used for landscape shots.
  • Narrow DOF is wide aperture, low F-stop number, and will blur out most of the foreground/background. This is generally used for portraits, animal, macro, etc photos.
If you enjoyed this video, please subscribe me here.

Message from author: Looks like I broke my promise again! This isn't Monterey photos right? XD Well first of all, sorry! Second of all, I want to tell you all something. This is the first photography tip/tutorial video I made and I plan on doing more of these "lectures" in the future. So anyways, I've been looking around because I am looking forward to upgrading my current DSLR. Obviously as you know, I am an amateur photographer myself. Anyways as I was looking on Amazon, right now they are having a deal. If you bundle select DSLR lens with a Canon EOS 7D DSLR camera, you will get a $200 discount on select lens. If you get a select Canon EOS T2i or T3i DSLR, you will get a $100 discount on select lenses. So this offer lasts until November 23, 2011. Anyways I couldn't get my referral link for the discount page, but you can find the offer on the Canon 7D DSLR page on Amazon. I think there are more discounts if you bundle it with a printer. I'm not sure, but great time for deals! I mean it's Black Friday, then there is Christmas. A lot of stores are holding great deals! Did you know Amazon already started their Black Friday deals? You can check them out here! Enjoy your holiday shopping! :)

Sanyo Eneloop Rechargeable Battery Review

The Sanyo Eneloop Rechargeable Battery is the battery I use in my DSLR's external camera flash. Unlike other batteries, this battery have a very strong long lasting charge. It is great for power all your battery powered electronic devices that uses AA or AAA batteries. The battery charge will stay for at least a year, unlike other rechargeables which will pretty much be useless in a year.

My external camera flash works great with this! It will power many many flashes, which proves it is very strong. I didn't regret my purchase yet! It is great! I can't believe I didn't use this sooner. All those money I wasted on the other brands that doesn't even work. If you need rechargeable batteries, I suggest you go get the Sanyo Eneloop Rechargeable Battery. This is great for DSLR's external flashes, your Wii remotes, flashlights, or other products that drains your batteries quickly! So go get yours now!

A Trip to Las Vegas (Part 3)

So a while back I went to Las Vegas or as some people call it "Sin City". People usually think of Las Vegas as a place to gamble, get married, watch show girls strip, and have fun, but that isn't the only thing about Las Vegas. There are lot's of shows in Las Vegas. All the buildings are like pieces of artwork that famous artists and architects created. It's amazing how people can create such a big and crowded city in the middle of the desert. It's called "Sin City" because of the gambling and the strip clubs there. Guess what? They were passing out naked show girl pictures on the streets. At first I was like, what could that be? I took one and I was like "OH GOD! GET THAT AWAY FROM ME!" LOL Should have listened in my friends warning. XD At least they covered the private parts with hearts and stuff. I had a lot of fun watching the shows... Well the family appropriate shows. LOL Didn't waste too much money either on this trip. HAHA

Some of the pictures maybe a little bit out of order, because I took some pictures with my DSLR and some with my Nokia N97. The naming system is a bit different so Microsoft Windows sorts them out different for me.

Full Resolution Photos and Prints: If you want to see full resolution photos or buy prints of any of the photos (well most of the photos) you see, they are up on my portfolio for viewing here.
